The next generation of Canada’s perennial silver-medal bestseller is coming into focus. As of 23 February 2026, General Motors has officially confirmed that the all-new 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will break cover later this year, marking a pivotal shift for the nameplate as it balances traditional V8 power with a long-awaited pivot toward electrification.
Recent spy photography and leaked patent documents suggest the 2027 model will adopt an evolutionary exterior design, borrowing styling cues from the latest Chevrolet Traverse. Canadian truck buyers can expect a more “chiselled” aesthetic, with prototypes showing a move away from rounded curves in favour of sharp, vertical edges along the doors and bed.
Anticipated Powertrains: The Return of the Hybrid
The most significant news for the 2027 model year is the expected introduction of a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant. After years of focusing exclusively on the Silverado EV, GM is pivoting to offer a middle ground for towers and long-distance drivers who aren’t ready for full electrification. While specific specs remain under wraps, industry analysts expect the PHEV to pair with either the 2.7L TurboMax or a dedicated V6 architecture.
For the traditionalists, the internal combustion lineup is also seeing a shake-up:
- New 5.7L V8: Reports indicate a new small-block V8 may replace the venerable 5.3L L84, aiming to exceed the current 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque while improving fuel efficiency.
- 3.0L Duramax Diesel: The “Baby Duramax” is expected to remain a staple of the Canadian lineup, likely receiving minor tuning updates for better thermal management and towing capacity.
- Transmission Upgrades: New transmission features are being tested to improve shift logic under heavy loads, a critical factor for the Canadian work-truck market.
Interior and Technology
Spy photos of the 2027 Silverado’s cabin reveal a massive overhaul. Following the lead of the Silverado EV and the updated Tahoe/Suburban, the 2027 1500 will feature significantly larger screens. A massive horizontal infotainment display is expected to be standard on LT trims and above, likely running a Google-built operating system with enhanced trailering apps.
The High Country trim was spied for the first time this week, showcasing premium materials and what appears to be an even more integrated version of GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving technology, which now includes expanded coverage for secondary Canadian highways.
Availability and Canadian Pricing
GM confirmed during its recent earnings call that the official reveal will take place in 2026, with a potential debut at the New York International Auto Show. Production is slated to begin in late 2026 for a 2027 model year launch.
While official CAD pricing has not been released, the addition of new hybrid technology and premium interior materials is expected to push the starting MSRP slightly higher. Current estimates suggest a starting point near $52,000 CAD for base work trucks, with top-tier High Country and ZR2 models easily clearing the $95,000 CAD mark.
