Felix Auger-Aliassime’s Miami Open Test: Can He Advance Today?

Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, the world No. 8, steps onto the hard courts of the Miami Open today for a second-round showdown with Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics, looking to build momentum after a mixed start to the 2026 season.

The 25-year-old Canadian, who received a first-round bye as the tournament’s eighth seed, will face the world No. 54 at the ATP Masters 1000 event. Auger-Aliassime enters as the clear favourite, with sportsbooks listing him at -250 to advance, while Fucsovics is a +190 underdog.

Auger-Aliassime’s form has been a topic of discussion this season. After a strong start, including a run to the semifinals in Dubai last month, he was upset by world No. 31 Arthur Fils in the fourth round at Indian Wells just 11 days ago.

“Today I feel like I have greater control over my career,” Auger-Aliassime said in a recent interview, referencing his resurgence since mid-2025. “The goal is always to be consistent at the biggest tournaments.”

His opponent, Fucsovics, advanced by defeating Australia’s Christopher O’Connell 7-6(6), 6-3 in the first round. The Hungarian veteran is 1-1 lifetime against the Canadian, though they have not met since 2021.

A victory would propel Auger-Aliassime into the third round in Miami, where a potential matchup with 27-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas—who upset fifth seed Alex de Minaur on Friday—could await.

With the Miami Open being a key tune-up ahead of the clay-court season, all eyes will be on the Canadian star as he aims to prove his point and climb back towards his career-high ranking.
