TORONTO – After nearly four months, Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 has concluded, making way for the highly anticipated Season 2, titled “Showdown.” The new season went live early this morning following scheduled downtime that began at 2 AM ET. Servers are now back online, marking the official start of the latest chapter in the battle royale’s evolution.

What Was Chapter 7?

Chapter 7, which began with Season 1 “Pacific Break,” completely replaced the previous Fortnite map. The new “Golden Coast” island was themed around the United States West Coast, featuring three distinct biomes: Forest, Desert, and Beach. Major Points of Interest (POIs) were inspired by locations like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and even Area 51.

The season introduced fresh gameplay mechanics, including the ability to surf, use wingsuits, and travel via hot air balloons. It was among the longest seasons in Fortnite’s history, running for approximately three months and three weeks before today’s transition.

Season 2: Showdown Arrives

Chapter 7 Season 2 “Showdown” was originally scheduled for early March but faced a brief delay. The update is now live as of 19 March 2026. Early reports confirm the map has undergone notable changes, with several new named locations like “Frigid Fortress” appearing alongside returning POIs.

A key gameplay change involves the Battle Bus, which has received a “wild” overhaul according to early access reports. The new season also introduces the “Rivalry” system and expands vehicle capabilities, allowing players to drive various cars across the island.

New Battle Pass & Content

The Season 2 Battle Pass headliners are none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, returning as “The Foundation,” and Warner Bros.’ iconic Bugs Bunny, making his Fortnite debut. The pass includes a range of new skins, cosmetics, and rewards tied to the “Showdown” theme.

The weapon loot pool has been refreshed with new additions, and the overall meta is expected to shift. Epic Games has released a recap trailer highlighting the season’s narrative, which reportedly involves the return of The Dark Voyager.

Server Status & Player Access

Downtime for the update began in the early hours of 19 March 2026. While some login issues were reported during the transition, Epic Games confirmed servers are back online as of approximately 5 AM PT/8 AM ET. Players worldwide can now download the update and dive into the new season.

The extended length of Season 1 had built considerable anticipation for “Showdown.” With a new map, new characters, and systemic changes, Chapter 7 Season 2 aims to reinvigorate the Fortnite experience as the game continues to dominate the battle royale landscape.
